According to a Loop News article today the new Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee says, “there is a possibility that Saint Lucia Carnival 2020 may be cancelled”. S Gaillard, Loop News St Lucia 25/3/20
A suggestion of an October date has been floating around on social media but that date now hangs in the balance and the carnival is now in fear of being completely canceled this year, as Loop News confirmed that a few of the carnival bands are not in support of the suggested alternative date in October.
The Coronavirus pandemic has led to the cancellation or postponement of several Caribbean Carnivals and related events, globally. For Saint Lucia’s unfortunately, this had included the cancellation of the popular tourist attraction: The Jazz Festival.
It seems highly likely that the Saint Lucia Carnival is destined to be canceled.
Carnival stakeholders met last week with the government to discuss the future of what has been dubbed Saint Lucia’s biggest festival.
