Here we are in London still struggling with the motivation for our own J’Ouvert and yet Guyana is hosting three!
Ultra J’ouvert hosted by Pulse and Stink n Dutty alongside Chocolate J’ouvert, with Pure Lime bringing the Chocolate experience to Guyana. It was touch and go as to whether the chocolate would make it, but at the empth hour it turned up. The chocolate J’Ouvert was actually the VIP section of Stink n Dutty and those that turned up for the chocolate VIP experience, really did not know what to expect. At first, it was hard work to get people to enjoy the experience. I actually had to laugh at the number that came to a paint and chocolate J’Ouvert, but wanted to “stay clean”! Eventually, they sold out to the chocolate fest and all opted to be spread with chocolate. It definitely was a dutty J’Ouvert, but Guyana loves dancehall and I mean just as much like the motherland, Jamaica. Where possible, dancehall tunes were pushed in the playlists and the crowds would go crazier than for the Soca tunes played!
